How To Apply & Remove Tape-In Hair Extensions?
With a top-grade human hair extensions, you will enjoy your investment for a long time. But how exactly are the tape-ins attached to the hair? We would like to explain this to you in the following tape-in extensions guide.
What You Need For Applying Tape-In Hair Extensions:
- Tape-in extensions - Individual tape extensions packages with tape strips and hair bundles
- Brush (extension brush) - glides over the joints with natural bristles
- Stem comb - Use that to separate your hair for each layer
- Hair Clips or Compartment clamp - Extra strong & large compartment clip, also suitable for thick hair
- Replacement adhesive strips - Prepare some replacement tapes individually or in bulk to put them up
- Remover - Especially for easy removal of tape on extensions

Steps To Put On (Apply) Tape-In Hair Extensions
- Dye or Style Your Hair Extensions - If you want your hair extension match your current natural hair color and style better, you can dye and style them before applying them on your head. Whether you choose smooth or curly tape extensions, you can style, smooth and curl them to match your style. However, we recommend using heat protection for all heat treatments in order to avoid unnecessary strain on the hair and so that your own hair and the extensions remain beautiful for a long time. Also some simple styles can be done after applying.
- Wash Your Natural Hair - In order to be able to optimally attach the tape-ins to your hair, your hair should be clean and free of styling products such as conditioner or spa pack. To do this, wash your hair thoroughly before use and rinse it at least 2 to 3 times with clear water so that no shampoo residues remain in the hair.
- Keep Your Natural Hair & Extensions 100% Dry - Blow-dry your hair until it is completely dry - there should be no residual moisture left Make sure that your hair is really 100% dry, you can also wash your hair the evening before. When wet, the hair is thicker than when it is dry. If the tapes are placed in damp hair, the volume of which shrinks after drying, they slip out.

- Sectioning Your Natural Hair - First think about how many sections of hair you want to section your hair into. We recommend forming about 4 to 5 sections of hair. Then start dividing your hair on the lower part of the head using a stem comb so that a horizontal line is created. This should be pulled clean. Use a hair clip to put away the hair above so that it does not interfere with your further procedure.
- Insert Tap-In Hair Extensions - After you have divided a section of hair, think about where you want to attach the braids. It is best to start on one side, e.g. left, and work your way to the right. You can decide whether you either lift a thin strand of your own hair, put the braid underneath and then stick the second tape-in strand over it, or whether you apply the tape directly to the severed hairline.
- Attach The Second Tape Underneath - In the second variant, you first glue and then lift up your own hair strand with the tape in order to attach the second tape underneath. Be precise so that the adhesive strips are directly on top of each other and press them firmly together with your fingers. This procedure is also known as the sandwich process. It is important that you leave 2 to 3 mm of space between the hairline and the tape-in, so that the strand remains free to move. Also, there should not be too much of your own hair between the tapes, otherwise the adhesive properties will be impaired. As soon as the first strand is attached, the next hair tress is glued next to it at a distance of approx. 3-5 mm.

- Continue above to apply extensions on all sections - When you are finished with the first section of hair, take another section of hair from the removed hair and proceed as described initially.
- Maintaining After Insertion - If necessary, you can shape your extension slightly such as temporarily straightening or curling. It is important that you do not wash your hair for approx. 3 to 4 days after inserting the tape-in extensions in order to achieve the maximum adhesive strength. Now you can enjoy your extensions for at least 4 weeks. During these time, if you want to wash your hair, please read our other guide for how to wash your hair extensions on your head here.

What Could Make Your Tape In Hair Extension Apply Fail?
There are several reasons why the tape-on extensions fail. The most common are caused by poor training:
- Oily or alcoholic care products were used for washing. Under no circumstances should they reach the connection points.
- There were too many oily or greasy residues on your own hair before incorporation. You should remove this beforehand with a deep cleansing shampoo.
- Too much hair was worked in between the two tapes.
- The connection points have come into contact with chlorine or salt water
- By exposure to heat such as Visiting the sauna, straightening iron, curling iron or hair dryer etc. made the joints soft and the adhesive strength impaired
- If your tape-on extensions fall out, it is best to contact the salon / hairdresser who has incorporated the extensions.
